What to Expect at a Drive-In

If it’s been a while since your last drive-in trip, or if this is your first time, here’s what to know:

  • Season runs April through September for most theaters. Drive-ins in warmer states like Texas, Florida, and Arizona may stay open year-round.
  • Movies start at dusk, usually between 8:00 and 9:30 PM depending on the time of year.
  • Admission is typically $8 to $12 per adult, and most drive-ins show a double feature (two movies) for that price. Kids are often free or heavily discounted.
  • Sound comes through your FM radio. Tune to the posted frequency and listen through your car speakers or bring a portable radio to save your battery.
  • Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Many people sit outside their cars, especially in warm weather.
  • Buy something from the concession stand. Drive-ins make most of their money from food sales, not ticket sales. Supporting the snack bar helps keep the drive-in open.
