West Virginia Drive-Ins
West Virginia has six operating drive-in theaters scattered across the Mountain State, from the Northern Panhandle to the New River Gorge. Most run seasonally from spring through fall, and several are cash-only operations.
View All Drive-InsThe Hilltop Drive-in in Chester, near the Pennsylvania border, has been showing movies since 1950 and is one of the busiest in the state, screening double features seven nights a week during peak summer. Two newer additions sit in the southern half: the Starlite Drive-in in Oak Hill, built from scratch in 2022 near the New River Gorge, and the Jungle Drive-in in Parkersburg, which reopened in late 2024 after an eleven-year closure.
The Meadow Bridge Drive-in on WV-20 is the smallest in the state at just 180 cars, while the Pipestem Drive-in near Athens also hosts a flea market alongside its weekend movie showings. In the Potomac Highlands, the Warner Drive-in Cultural and Resource Center in Franklin operates as a nonprofit, combining outdoor movies with live performances and community programming since its 2016 revival.
The Sunset Drive-in in Shinnston, one of the state's oldest at 77 years, closed in August 2024 and suffered a concession stand fire the following month. The property has since been acquired by Harrison County.
