About Goochland Drive-In Theater

The Goochland Drive-in Theater, located in Hadensville, VA, is a relatively new addition to the industry. It was established in 2009 by John Heidel, who was motivated by the inconvenience and high cost of taking his young children to traditional movie theaters. Initially, the theater had a single large screen measuring 80’ x 40’, featuring digital projection and showcasing double features during the seasonal period from late March to early October.

However, in April of 2018, the Goochland Drive-in expanded by adding a second smaller screen. This unique addition, known as The Grove, offers both parking space for cars and a grassy area where visitors can sit on chairs or blankets. The Grove boasts in-ground speakers for audio, a feature that sets it apart from other drive-ins in the area.

At the Goochland Drive-in, well-behaved pets are welcome as long as they are leashed. However, outside food and alcohol are not permitted, prompting visitors to explore the theater’s reasonably priced concession stand, which now includes a gluten-free menu. While there, make sure to try the signature Gooch Dog—a hot dog topped with macaroni and cheese and a special sauce.

Additionally, the Goochland Drive-in caters to families with children by providing a playground for their entertainment. This feature adds to the overall family-friendly atmosphere of the theater.
