Kentucky Drive-Ins

Kentucky has six operating drive-in theaters spread across the state, from the Louisville suburbs to the southeastern mountains. Most are single-screen operations that run on weekends from spring through fall.

The newest is the Sauerbeck Family Drive-in in La Grange, about 20 miles northeast of Louisville. Built from scratch and opened in 2018, it has a 98-foot screen with 4K projection and broadcasts sound on 90.3 FM. It runs the longest season of any Kentucky drive-in, staying open from April through November.

Central Kentucky has three options along the I-64 and I-75 corridors. The Bourbon Drive-in in Paris has been in the Earlywine family since 1956 and sits in the heart of horse country. The Judy Drive-in in Mount Sterling, about 35 miles east of Lexington, opened the same year and remains a family operation. The Stanford Drive-in, south of Lexington, added a grill in 2026 and runs from April through October.

In western Kentucky, the Calvert Drive-in in Calvert City has been open since 1953 and sits between Paducah and Murray near Kentucky Lake. In the southeast, the Knox Drive-in in Barbourville opened in 2023 as a community-funded project, named after a former drive-in that operated nearby in the mid-twentieth century.
