Florida Drive-Ins

Florida has four operating drive-in theaters, all open year-round thanks to the state's climate. The Swap Shop Drive-in in Fort Lauderdale, once the largest in the country with up to 14 screens, closed permanently after a screen fire in 2022.

The Silver Moon Drive-in in Lakeland, between Tampa and Orlando, has been running continuously since 1948. It has two screens showing double features seven nights a week, with sound on 88.3 and 89.3 FM and a weekend swap shop on the property. It has over 21,000 Instagram followers, making it one of the most-followed drive-ins in the country.

South of Tampa, the Ruskin Family Drive-in on US Highway 41 has operated since 1952. It sustained over $150,000 in damage from Hurricane Milton in October 2024 but was rebuilt with community support and reopened in March 2025. It runs a cash-only box office and shows family-friendly films on a single screen.

The Ocala Drive-in on South Pine Avenue has two screens and is open every night of the year, including holidays. Nearby, the Joy-Lan Drive-in in Dade City opened on Halloween night 1950 and celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2025. It operates year-round with a flea market on weekends and sound on 93.1 FM.
