Pennsylvania Drive-Ins
Pennsylvania has 26 open drive-in theaters with over 40 screens, making it one of the top states in the country for outdoor moviegoing. The state is also home to Shankweiler's Drive-In in Orefield, which opened in 1934 and is the oldest continuously operating drive-in in America.
View All Drive-InsThe largest concentration of drive-ins is in the western part of the state. The Dependable Drive-In in Moon Township, just outside Pittsburgh, has four screens and is the biggest in Pennsylvania by screen count. Three-screen locations include Brownsville, Evergreen in Mount Pleasant, Pike in Montgomery, and Starlight in Butler. Most of the rest are single-screen operations spread across small towns and rural highways from the Lehigh Valley to the Erie area.
Nearly all PA drive-ins are seasonal, typically running April through October. The Mahoning Drive-In in Lehighton stands out for its 35mm repertory programming, screening vintage films on actual film prints to a dedicated following. Most theaters broadcast sound over FM radio, and several allow outside food, pets, or both.
