Idaho Drive-Ins

Idaho has five operating drive-in theaters, spread from the Treasure Valley near Boise to the Teton foothills along the Wyoming border. Most run from late spring into early fall.

The most photographed is the Spud Drive-in between Victor and Driggs, where the screen sits against the Teton Range. A windstorm destroyed the original screen in 2022, but new owners rebuilt it and the theater returned to regular summer showings. In Idaho Falls, the Motor-Vu has the state's largest screen at over 6,400 square feet, powered by a 4K RGB laser projector since its 1947 debut.

The Treasure Valley west of Boise is home to two drive-ins: the Parma Motor-Vu on Highway 95, a family operation since 1953, and the Terrace Drive-in in Caldwell, which now runs three screens with double features. The most remote of the group is the Sunset Auto-Vue in Grangeville, the only drive-in in central Idaho, run by the same family behind the Blue Fox Theatre downtown.

Two former Idaho drive-ins have recently closed. The Teton Vu in Rexburg shut down permanently in August 2024 after 75 years when its land was sold for housing development. The Idan-Ha in Soda Springs did not reopen for the 2025 season after a decade under its most recent operators.
